• Samba / File share?

From Shawn Highfield@1:229/452 to All on Thursday, November 20, 2014 06:12:44
    Hello,

Recently been playing with my ECS machine again. I've got shared drives working 1/2 way, I can from OS2 see my WinXP machine, and /sometimes/(I
can't figure out the pattern) it can see my Windows 8 machine as well.

I'm looking for the magic so the OS2 box can see my Win8 machine all the time, and for win8 to see the os/2 box.

I'm willing to start 100% over following any ideas you guys give me, I've tried various versions of samba from the net, as well as the internal MPT stuff.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

i can't help in this at all... things have changed from when i had it working on Warp 3 Connect... today (1) samba is used on eCS, (2) i don't have an XP (3)
or anything newer than Vista machine, (4) my eCS boxen are on one network while
all my other machines are on one of two others and (5) netbios/netbuei is not routable which means that it cannot traverse my firewall/router without some major help...

Shawn, I have the same issue here. I can see my Server 2003 and 2008 machines as well as the one XP that I have Wildcat! running on. However, like you, I cannot see my Win8 and Win8.1 test machines. Haven't tried with the Win10 VM yet. I am thinking M$ might have screwed around with the code that handles CIFS/SAMBA file sharing yet once again, but don't quote me on that.

Well, I _was_ able to get it to connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 file server this afternoon to get some files off of it onto this ECS 2.2b2 VM without any issues :)

Using Samba I'm able to get a connection to the Windows 8 box if I
connect to the XP box first, then click the win8 box, and mount the admin share. So it's close but I have no idea how I even got it to that point
so couldn't talk anyone through it.

Yeah, I am having some issues getting it to talk properly with my Server
2008 (non-R2) file server for some reason. It connects, but that's about it. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5

Using samba, I can connect to my windows 8 server MANUALLY. I can't get
the process automated but... it's working and I'm able to change a few things around in batch files to make it work. ie: f: should be a share on my Win8
box but it's not F:\C\ so I can deal. Biggest issue is on rebooitng the VM
I have to manually launch the samba GUI and mount the share.

Yeah, I have not figured out how to mount SMB/CIFS shares yet from the ECS command line or even if it is possible, as I just use the GUI that it comes with.

Which is why I'm as of yet un able to move back to os/2 full time. :)
I know I'll get it figured out at some point though!
