I work for a large automotive company.. who buys lots of old

one comes in, from Switzerland, with an OS/2 warp based HMI
so, for the first time since I began using PC's in the early 90's I
have to learn OS/2 to maintain this beast....
it' oS/2 warp 4.0... kind of neat, running custom software in the os/2
GUI type mode, with some kind of CAM type interface...
and i'll be maintaining it till the machine dies or is replaced, and
they even talkked about getting a second machine... it'll be in serice probably until 2030!

I could be wrong, but I believe what you have to do is create a
"shadow". On my ArcaOS system, you can right click on an object and "Create Shadow" and it will then ask where to place the shadow (to the Desktop) and then you have a shortcut to that obj on the desktop.
I think object oriented stuff was taken to the extreme on WPS. You
could do a lot of really cool stuff, like drag docs to the printer to print them. And one feature I used a lot was having sort of a "work folder" and if I opened that folder (filled with shadows), everything
in the folder was opened. I could have a "BBS" folder, with telnet, multimail and dos shell "shadows" and when I opened it, all those
would open up.

I tried that on a Seamonkey web browser executable and it worked, but
when I clicked on the icon, it just opens the Properties dialog box.
Then I was reminded of that issue to. I have the Seamonkey executable
in a folder and when I click on it, it just opens the properties dialog box, it doesn't actually execute the program. What's up with that? LOL

I seem to remeber that I had that issue in the past and I am
remembering it had something to do with the "default" open option. If
you right click on the exe or shadow and go to "Open", you should have
2 options, DEFAULT and SETTINGS, and there is a bullet next to
the default, it might have "SETTINGS" selected as the default and I
can't remember right now how to change that.
Also check on the properties under the TYPE tab, it should have "Executable" under "Current Types"

I think all that does is create another EXE file. The differences
between how OS/2 and Windoes handle icons is so different that it's
hard to grasp what the right thing to do in OS/2 is.
And I only use my box around once a week, so not much practice.

I was one of those people in the 90's that *wanted* to use OS/2 but
could not afford the hardware to run it properly. So, instead I bought
and installed Windows 3.1.
Today I have OS/2 Warp 4 running in VirtualBox on my Linux desktop. I
also use Windows 10 for work only, which also runs in a virtual machine.
