• Anyone monitoring in here?

I've seriously begun relearning pascal and would like a good spot to post questions when needing assistance.

I'm "monitoring" this echo, but probably can't offer much
assistance. Been a LONG time since I did anything with Pascal.

I would also like to get back into it, though.

My guess is that there aren't many still following in here...

I can help, I code in Pascal (different dialects) all day, even wrote
my own compiler, and currently developing a BBS, Tosser, Mailer and
Terminal program all written in Pascal... ;-)

Yep, same here (except the ham radio part). :)

One issue I have is "which Pascal these days"? Free Pascal seems
the likely choice. What I used to know about Pascal was all done
    on Turbo Pascal in DOS...

Need to do some research on how different FP is from the old TP...

While I'm working from home during the shelter-in-place, I'm looking for projects to fill the time I do have. I'm tempted to run everything in DOSBOX or a DOS VM and just pretend the last 2 decades didn't happen. :)

TurboPascal should run fine in DOSBOX. :)

I think the differences with FP depend on what units you include and how it's setup.

TurboPascal should run fine in DOSBOX. :)

    I don't see why it wouldn't.

And yeah, I need to get back into Pascal, I used to be quite proficient in TP back in the day, but these days, FP would be more useful.

My newest challenge is getting disk images for TP to load in DOSBOX. I loved PASCAL, the first course I took in CS was in Pascal before pivoting to C,
but the algorithm classes were done in Pascal for clarity.

Yup, would love to have a place to learn, and send practice code to be evaluated. Kind of like the learn english echo. Is that what the intent of this is? I'd love some interactive activities to assist in the learning. My goal is specifically to make other languages such as Mystic's MPL, etc...
make more sense to me. I hear pascal is a good starting point. Am I right/wrong?

If I recall, there used to be a lot of BBS source code in PASCAL (is it all caps or not? I forgot...). I learn a lot about a language by looking at others' code, BBS source might be a good starting point.

I love FreePascal. It has a lot of features.

Python is also good, but I wanted a compiled language for my projects. Python is great if you want scripting .

In the end, choose what you know and what fits you.
