• Dems vs. MAGA agenda

From Björn Felten@2:203/2 to All on Saturday, August 17, 2024 08:54:59
    Democrats:

    - Education
    - Health care
    - Pollution regulation
    - Gun control
    - Middle-class tax cuts
    - Rich pay a fair share of taxes
    - Regulate big corporations
    - Deal with climate change
    - Women's reproductive rights
    - Racial and gender justice

    Republicans:

This horrible agenda will destroy the USA.

    Democrats:

This incredible agenda will destroy the MAGA.

    --

To paraphrase former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura:

I'm 76 years old now, so the window is closing. I want to be alive to see the first woman President of the United States of America.

    Democrats:

    - Education

Democrats already control our education no matter what. We have teacher unions that are controlled by Democrats and we have teachers and other state employees who are legally forced to pay dues that fund Democrat campaigns.

    - Pollution regulation

It's already regulated by law. https://www.epa.gov/p2/pollution-prevention-law-and-policies

    - Gun control

    They're already controlled by law.

    - Regulate big corporations

    They are already regulated.

    - Women's reproductive rights

The USSC already liberated women from federal control of reproductive rights.

    - Deal with climate change

We already have winter solstice and summer solstice. The changes are imminent.

    - Racial and gender justice

We already have laws that protect against discrimination for race & gender.

All that stuff you listed has already been taken care of. Democrats need to learn some new tricks now.

Okay. Next question then, why do the MAGA mob scream that it will destroy the USA (well, they as usual call it America of course)?

Some of the items in your list involve extreme deficit spending. When I say extreme, I mean historical amounts of money. The Harris/Biden administration has already broken records for spending and gotten away with it. To make matters worse, they have little to nothing to show for all this spending.

Their supporters don't understand the concept of deficit spending, so it's a no-brainer that they will continue down this reckless path if they're given the chance (but we WON'T LET THEM!)

This is why a Harris regime absolutely can not and must not be trusted with another penny (congress shouldn't be trusted either, but we're going to have no choice but to let them muck around with it some more at some point.)

I think the point is to strengthen the law, not just make a law.

    - Regulate big corporations

    They are already regulated.

C'mon, you can't be serious. Big corps basically run things, their regulatory oversight is like a paper mache pair of handcuffs, heh.

    - Women's reproductive rights

The USSC already liberated women from federal control of reproductive rights

That's an... interesting take. What they liberated women from was the ability to decide what they want to do with their bodies. USSC limited their rights, not helped them. It liberated the rights of the fetus more than women. I do not support abortion, but I also realize that my moral imperatives should not be pushed onto others.

I'm not sure precisely what Bjorn meant by "regulate big corporations," but the kind of regulations that conservatives need are different from the kind of regulations that liberals want. You're right that big corps run things, but I don't believe that this will ever change.

It's my understanding that federal control of abortion is a thing of the past, and that now abortions can be regulated by states. I don't understand how that hurts anybody.
