Taking the plunge and getting the latest WINS. I have paid for 7.something
and never used it. I have been playing with Synchronet and Mystic over the past little while and though I see the effort behind those 2 projects I am
    just drawn back to WINS...

Signed up to the AUP ... and apparently the version on my HDD isn't working corectly, had to order a new install disk from Santronics... Piss me off, anti-climatic. I also took care of any issues with the latest version of PXW.

I don't have the time like I use to, but I will rebuild my WINS system slowly over the next little bit.

Anyway, in a week or 2 I'll be starting my work...

I had wins back in 97, I thought about running that again and contacted hector and he would not honor my license from back then, which I almost understand (tho we are hobbyist not making money with it) but having to pay AUP is what keeps me from coming back. I will say I think it is fine software, just not really worth the money at least to me.

If I go to the gun range it cost me money. If I go golfing... it cost me money... If I play with the stupid BBS... it cost me money. I was one of the first to get WildCat 5... paid in advance and waited for the software to be completed. I have always been loosly updated, hence I only had to activate my AUP ... but my installed verson on my HDD not functional and I do nort want to look for my install disks so I Santronics to send me a copy. So here I wait untill I get my install disk..

I have played with other software, SynchroNET & Mystic, the only two worth mentioning, and I keep getting drawn back to WINS. The only problem I can see, and I'm not looking hard, is that Sanrtronics is spending alot of time on the larger aspects of the software, webserver, email server, and all the commercial aspects.... I wish more work is/was done on the telnet side and the rlogin... Anyway, we'll see what happens...

    Thanx for responding...

    Joe

Yeah, this is what happens to me :) I admit I DO run Mystic, but any
for it's built-in mail and file processing abilities. It has a Fido
node number as does my WINServer 10 system. My WINS system just polls
Fido from my Mystic system, that's all :)

I love Mystic but when I have an issue with it it ends up sucking the life right out of me. I'll get a WINS system up and running and I'm not going to explore other options....

Seems odd such a great advanced system and your waiting for an install disk to come in the mail? Just kidding,, although that is a good reason for me to stick with with mystic, I do not have a machine with an optical drive...

I have an issue with Mystic rejecting my FidoNET mail... talked to the powers to be ... and have since moved on. About the install disks, not sure where mine are, could find them, and I'm not sure why Santronics doesn't have an install disk I can download to have it update on the AUP system.

To be honest I like Mystic, prefer it over Synchronet, though I think Synchronet has more features .... Anyway, I have put in a week so far... shouldn't be much longer..

Yeah, it's the money thing which is part of why I stick with WINServer
for the most part for the main BBS. That, and these ease of writing
mods in wcCODE for it :)

I love Mystic but when I have an issue with it it ends up sucking the

Understandable. I must admit, however, that Mystic has features that I
really wish WINServer had it in -- it would be nice if they would also
combine PX/WINS and WINS into one product. Would make things simpler in
    some ways.

Yeah, fortunately I think a little bit of this has changed, though.
    Possibly even for the better.

As I see it Hector is spending little to no time on the tenet/BBS side much anymore. All of his time on the commercial aspects of it. I'm not sure if he'll ever address any of the hobbiest issues any time soom.
