From URBAN NIGHTMRE@46:1/139 to ALL on Thursday, January 31, 2019 19:20:17
Hello all. I run MBSE on SolydK Linux (Debian variant). It works great for the most part and only took a little hacking to get door games working. But I'm having a problem with Operation Overkill II. It just doesn't seem to like DOSemu. Anybody else run this door?

Also some games seem to need a patch as the processor is to fast and with out the patch will give a divide by zero error. Is this still the norm or is there
a way to slow DOSemu down enough that you don't need to patch?

Finally should I be using a FOSIL driver? I'm asuming no since the games work (except of OOII).

    Thanks

You will only need a FOSSIL driver if the door itself requires one. I don't know if OOII needs one or not, but I suspect it doesn't. There might even be
a setting in the door configuration to select fossil or not.

Unfortunately, I haven't used MBSE or OOII specifically so I can't help you much more than that.

I don't think dosemu is the problem. I run it here just fine in dosemu I believe. Are you running ooinfo as well as maintoo?

Some games have never been patched, so yes some of them will still need it. I just keep a handy tppatch.exe and patchcrt.exe in an accesible directory in my dosemu sessions so I can use it whenever I need to.

It's still pretty common to need a fossil driver. So I would just load one in your autoexec.bat every time dosemu loads up. I personally use bnu170.zip (bnu.com is the executable), and haven't had a worry with games not running since. The game will either use it if it needs it, or it won't if it doesn't.

    Nick

Thanks for the advice. I'll give those ideas a try and see what happens. I relly like MBSE but I'm considering a WinXP or Win7 32 install to try out Mystic or Sync and see if the doors run any better.

FWIW I'm using Mystic under XP on an old XP badged laptop. I invoke netfoss when a door is called from the BBS door games menu. Have 4 doors set up now
and everything seems to work fine.

Me too, except just Mystic. My Synchronet isn't going to be setup anymore for door games as it's just for testing purposes only now, but I DID get them working at one point. :)

On my BBS I have AB, AB2, LORD, LORD 2, LOD, SRE, BRE, LORD, OOII, and several others all running.

About the only problem I have so far is with LORE and multi-user support enabled. <someone> keeps following me every step I make. I'm not sure why, but if anyone else has any ideas on this, lemme know. :)
By <someone> I mean literally, <someone>. Every step having to ignore that message with a keypress, and only with multinode enabled. multinode off, and
it works fine, except that users couldn't interact with other players at the same time.

Looks like it! Haha.. If only that were true.. I think it's just a bug in LORE somewhere, somehow, but I can't pinpoint it to a specific thing.... I mean... WTF is it? ;)

I'm not sure if I have that game running or not, and if I have it setup for multiplayer or not. I'll have to take a look-see.

Another decision under dos is resident prog - unzero.com. It hooks zero divide error in real time. If You need it ask me in netmail.
