The Mystic prompt options appear to not let me specify this.

login stage to have a black background and not blue?
Check out the prompt editor, but go to "2: Options". Field Color 1 and 2 is probably what you're looking for.
If you want to turn off the input field box you use |IF in the prompt
and the next input will not have the box. You can also use |IN## to
limit the input box size to ## characters (still allowing longer text to be inputted, it just scrolls within those constraints).
