Only about [4"] of the photo got printed on that piece of
EXPENSIVE GLOSSY Photo Paper.

Usually a printer provides a visual clue as to how it expects
the paper to be loaded. That is, there should be an embossed
symbol on the feed tray that indicates what it expects to be
the "top edge", and whether the printed side is to be inserted
face up or face down.
