    Howdy! August,

A couple of years ago I bought a 4TB WD My Passport USB 3.0 HDD and
didn't see an icon for that HDD come up in Windows Explorer's (WE)
My Computer when I connected it to the XP box.

The HDD showed up in Vista WE

On the box, the Compatibility section says its for Win 10, 8.1 or
7, so I suppose I should consider myself lucky Vista saw it.

After seeing that 3.0 Flash Drive appear in WE when I plugged it in
the XP box last week got me to wondering if I used a little more
patience, and waited a few minutes longer I may see it come up in
XP WE if I waited long enuf.

    NOPE!

That HDD must just like MS O/S's newer than XP SP3.
'Cuz I waited several minutes and also looked to see if the HDD LED
blinked on the XP box's Front Panel, and never saw any activity.

I started thinking maybe there might be something like a Powered
USB Hub that had USB 3.0 connectors so that I could plug the 3.0
HDD in one of the front connectors and put the output cable to one
of the USB 2.0 jacks on the XP box.

Have You (or Anyone else reading) heard of such a Critter?

BTW that isn't the only ROUNDTUIT on my list to do.
It's just another ROUNDTUIT I added to MY LIST.

You have a ROUNDTUIT LIST too, don't You?
(Probably not as large as mine though).

Thanks es (And) 73 (Best Regards) de (From) Ed W9ODR dit dit

    I don't think XP's built-in USB 2.0 ports will service a USB 3
extender and somehow miraculously produce USB 3 compatibility.

You probably need to install a USB 3 board on your XP pc first.

I explored such a thing for my T60 laptop, via PCMCIA, several
    years ago and gave up.

But.. maybe I should revisit the situation:

Thanks for helping me understand what I need to do if I'd want
the XP box to be able to read that USB 3.0 4TB HDD.
Appreciate the thought. Here's some comments OTTOMH (*).

Instead of looking at the Amazon URL I will do a DuckDuckGo
search for the MagiDeal 3.0 card and see if any information about
it or if any store has it.

I believe this XP desktop still has a empty Card Slot.
Hope so because I put a SCSI Card in one Slot for a SyQuest HDD.
I think there is another empty Slot available on the motherboard.

a friend got the SyQuest EZ Flyer 230MB HDD from Ebay for me.
I couldn't buy it myself because I don't have a Credit Card to use
    to purchase stuff.

I wanted the EZ Flyer because I have many EZ-135 Cartridges I made
on my 486-DX2-66 MSDOS 5.0/IBMDOS 7.0/Win3.1 computer when I used
a External EZ-135 HDD long ago (Until it quit working) for Backing
Up and also being able to have and use Software without putting it
on the 486's HDD and taking up space on them (330 MB C:&500MB D:).

I explored such a thing for my T60 laptop, via PCMCIA, several
    years ago and gave up.

    PCMCIA Cards are nice.

When I used a Acer notebook that ran Win95 I got a PCMCIA LAN Card
for it so I could use it also on DSL with this XP box.

That notebook hasn't worked after I tried putting a Clock Battery
    in it.
Doing that was a MAJOR OPERATION, and Operation is the correct word
because to get to the Battery Holder required opening the case and
removing the PC Board and Other Things to do the job.

When I got it back together and turned it On I didn't see anything
on the LCD Screen, so opened it up a second time and put it back
together but no luck either time.

That was a long time ago and I still think about what I could do
to use it again because there was one program on it that I really
enjoyed using. OTTOMH(*) I can't remember the programs Name.

I've wrote about the program in this echo years ago.
It had a World Map and showed the Time of Day for 8 places that I
    selected, on the Map.

One thing I thought about is seeing if the Video connector would
let me see what was on that Win95 computer on the Monitor my
    Desktop XP box uses.

The other idea I've thought of is that I still have the Software
that came in the box and wondered if I could run Win95 in a VM ?

I have Inotek VirtualBox on this XP box and have used it to try
running a UBUNTU (U'U) Install in a VM and that works.

Usually I just play with U'U by running it on the CD as a
Limited User, but I just had to try seeing how U'U worked as a
    Full Install inside a VM.

I'm not sure if the Acer Win95 Software would run on this HP XP.
I think I tried making a VM once but I remember seeing Error
Messages about the Drivers not being able to find the Hardware it
    was looking for.

Just like Years ago when I was in a Flea Market and bought a
Win98 CD for a Gateway 2000 while there.
I tried to put it in a VM and Run it, but only saw a Nag Screen
saying that the computer WASN"T A GATEWAY PC so it couldn't run
    in the VM.

I think long ago I tried making a VM of the Acer Win95 software
On an Acer pc running Vista but it didn't work.
(Maybe I ought to try that again cause my memory isn't always
    accurate).

But.. maybe I should revisit the situation:

I think you can purchase the gift cards that are often
plentiful at grocery stores and use those for online purchases.
They "look" like credit cards. They have the Mastercard or Visa
    logos.
