• I can't screencast correctly from PC

Subject: I can't screencast correctly from PC

Chromecast 1 seems to screencast properly from my Galaxy Tab4 Android
    5.1.1 tablet.
I can't do theásame from my W7 or W10 PCs.á They both have the cast
icon in upper right of Google Chrome screen, and both will initiate
casting of the Google screen to theáTV áat that point.á But when I
minimize the Google screen to hopefully then cast any and all Windows
screens, the TV remains locked on the Google screen.á Of course, if I
'X-Out' of Google,áall casting quits too.á Hence I cannot cast any PC
screens, including the pic albums on my PCs that I want to show on my
    TV.

    Frustrated? á You bet.
Sure could use some advice here.

Once you've clicked on the "cast ..." entry from the chrome menu, you
see the dialog, if you click the "cast to" title dropdown, it changes to
a "select source" dropdown and you can select between tab and desktop.

    I get to this:

    Chrome Mirroring
what are my wireless router settings - Google Search

Which to me says I could be 'casting', but I'm not. I am only
mirroring the Google screens which is what it is really saying?
If I am right, then how do I go from Google casting to PC casting.
I am missing something that I apparently need.
    Thanks

Yes - that is correct. I can cast to TV from so-called Chromecast
supporting apps (such as Youtube). But I want to cast everything I
show on my PC screen. So - if I run a video-playing program, or a
game, I can cast the PC video to my TV.

OK, so from within chrome, you use the vertical "..." icon to get to the
menu and see a "cast..." entry? If not you either need a newer version
of chrome, or if you have some reason to stick with an old version, you
    might need a cast add-on.

    So - if I run a video-playing program, or a
game, I can cast the PC video to my TV.

I should think the lag (a good half second or so) would make gaming infeasible.

You may be right on that. The movie capability is of more interest to
    me.

I just discovered that wi-fi (wireless) is NOT ENABLED on both my W7
and W10 PCs! That's a surprise, and maybe that's my problem. They
are different wireless PCI adapters of course , being on different
PCs. How do I enable same? I tried, and did not succeed.

My PCs are cat5-connected to my Verizon WIRELESS router, whatever
    problem that might be causing.

I have a Chromecast adapter on my TV and have casted (via Google Chrome)
both when wired and wireless. I don't think it matters. Once you get
the cast from PC to router your job is done. Now the Chromecast gets
it from the wireless part of the router.

If you're casting via DLNA the same holds true. I found DLNA on my TV interesting as it itself will allow my TV to just pull videos from my
laptop like it's a server. I don't run anything on my laptop. Except
the TV only plays certain media types and that's the TV's problem.

Seems to be a trade off between the two. Each has it's feature set.

Good news.á I am casting entire screen now in both W7 and W10.á Turns
out I needed to do a more careful read of:

    http://tweaks.com/windows/65923/share-your-entire-windows-desktop-sceen-with-ch romecast/

    which says in part:

To share your entire screen, you will need to click on the down arrow
icon after clicking on the cast icon. áThen, select Cast screen/Window (experimental).

I post this only to maybe help some other poor lost soul.á Please
ignore if you were/are not having my problem.

To share your entire screen, you will need to click on the down arrow
icon after clicking on the cast icon. Then, select Cast screen/Window

That's what my first reply said yesterday ...
Indeed you did - I just failed to interpret correctly what you said.
    Thanks

A complete description of how to cast whatever is on your computer screen to your TV is shown here:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/199565/mirror-anything-from-your-computer-to-your-tv-u sing-google-chromecast/

Scroll down about 3-6 pages of this link to where it says "Share Your Screen" and then select

    Cast to Desktop

At the bottom right of the screen, click on Share

Now you can select any program from your Taskbar or Desktop and its screen output will be displayed on your TV
