I have to send kudos rOss's way for revamping the backbone auditing process. sOme batch file creation lets me cut dead wood easily.
so in my bit of batch creation I decided to check some things out.
TOtal listed destroyed areas: 239.
OF those, 89 areas are actually shown in the current echolist. THIs
means that roughly 37% of those deleted are actually listed there.

Echolisting isnt as authorative as it used to be and certainly
doesnt mean an echo is viable.
Some list echoes just to prevent ressurection.

Yah, I can bet so. Hard to understand what they'd get out of it but

Yah, I can bet so. Hard to understand what they'd get out of it but
I do the same thing with echoes I once had on the backbone..
What we have had happen recently is a guy listed expired echoes and
then turns around ressurects them with imported content from the newsgroups, of the 21 echoes that came out of BACKBONE.NO, most of
them were of this variety and I saw no traffic in them that
originated on Fidonet.
So when I decide to retire an echo, I want it to stay that way.
btw never have seen that response to netmail I sent you. DOn't know
where abouts in limbo land it went <g>.

I think what you've done with this audit and the new addition to
backbone file distribution is a plus for fidonet. We're about quality rather than quantity imho <g>.

I believe it is sitting on your NC's system, I was checking the
route tables and saw the entry..
I changed it to go to you via Mark. (Not the original reply but
anything in the future)

Yes I thought it high time that we as a network offer up a roster of
echoes that matched our times. Nearly all the echoes removed were
left overs that remained in the system from days long gone. The conventional wisdom that was used regarding these old echoes was
that "they werent hurting anything" by remaining rostered.
However offerring up dead air just because they are hurting anything
only wastes the time of sysops setting up and maintaining their
boards and of course the end users of those boards.
