I See your located in Eads, TN so I know its long distance for you,

I have free long distance, I just don't know what kind of speed we'll
get over Vonage. Be interesting to find out tho.
I'm curious. IIRC, Vonage is a voice over IP (VOIP) service, much like Skype, Comcast web phone, Verizon web phone etc. I also seem to recall
a statement that a normal dial-up modem will not work over those types
of service. Is that correct?

I suspect it has to do with bandwidth. The ordinary phone line was
All of that said, Ray Gwinn developed a virtual modem in his SIO
package for OS/2. It allowed you to 'dial' and connect to sites over
the Internet, as far as
Binkley was concerned it was a dial-up connect, but it was in fact
over the Internet. I don't know if that could be adapted to work with VOIP technology.
Perhaps, or perhaps (if true) it has to do with the coding used by
modems to cram more bauds down the limited bandwidth. If VOIP does not
work, it might be (guessing again) a digitization that might not
faithfully preserve the phase information needed for the coding of a
moden.

Call vonage and tell them that you are having a lot of difficulty faxing
and ask them if they can change the parameters on your interface box.
They will make some adjustments that will greatly improve modem communications.

Sorry if my statement before mis-led you. I don't have vonage -- but
was stating what I had heard so that perhaps those that know could
either confirm or deny the rumor.
Reading between the lines, it seems if modems can work over at least
some VOIP, and the rumor I'd heard is not true.
I have Vonage for both my voice line and the bbs dialin line. If you wantto try it out, point your dialer to 843-278-0693

I don't have a modem on this computer. I connect to the internet via
cable.
I was questioning whether or not vonage would work with a modem --
because I had heard that it would not. Enough people have said that it does work, I believe that and not what I had heard years ago.
