I wonder if there will be problems with some of the echos you are listing.

I don't where Ross pulls the echomail tagname from...

Ross may depend on what you post in your "Please Add" message here when he creates the new BACKBONE.NA file.

If Ross takes it from your message here, there are differences I noticed between your post here, and what is in the ECHOLIST echo:

For example:

REC.SPORT.FOOTBALL.COLLEGE (ECHOLIST ECHO)
REC.SPORT.FOOTBALL.C (here in Z1_BACKBONE "Please Add" msg.)

See what I mean?

You should probably edit the "Please Add" message to show the full tagname.

I think we ought to look real hard here about making the backbone an adjunct of the newsgroups, especially the alt.* ones??

I agree, though a case could be made for just those imported into FIDONet if dissemination warrants (assuming enough people get the traffic). I have no problem with using the Echolist for same, but I'm just one person (g). I would certainly object to a wholesale Usenet import (chuckle) though unlikely. :)

Luc has filtered the newsgroups he says so no binaries, or junk will come through as far as I understand it, just discussions.

I think it sounds good if this is all true.

I don't think that's Luc's intention.

I know some ISPs have been dropping newsgroups altogether... Mine doesn't carry
them. I have to get the ones I get from a free source which exists for now at least.

oh... i hadn't thought about that... i've some really long ones in my fastecho mail tosser so i never expected that the echolist would have such a limitation...

how can i rename this group/tag and 2/3 other , to fix the problem

either delete them or leave them to rot and fall off when the system is cleaned
and purged... or maybe contact the echolist keeper and ask for help directly...

i'd shorten those like the above to r.s.fb.college... i carry several here which i've reduced like this... somethimes one has to be creative as there are a few with identical initials ;)
