====== DOOR.SYS ======
External Program Data File (a.k.a. drop file), ''DOOR.SYS'' file format, initially created by door game developer, Ricky Greer (Limited Release Software Group) in 1988. From [[https://www.linkedin.com/in/rickygreer/|Ricky's LinkedIn profile]]:

> //Due to the worldwide popularity of [my BBS door games], I also created a universal interface system (door.sys) which opened up the way for other developers to start supporting multiple systems. IE... GAP, PCBoard, Wildcat, RBBS, and several others.//

It also appears that GAP BBS Software author Kenny Gardner contributed to the initial 31-line specification.

The DoorWay document ''DOORSYS.DOC'' includes this revision history of the 31-line DOOR.SYS file format:

           03/14/88 - Submitted by the "Limited Release Software Group"
  Updated: 03/21/88
  Updated: 10/22/88  KG

  * The ''DOOR.SYS'' is a plain text file consisting of CRLF-delimited lines((Although comically, the original specification stated "Each line ... with a CR at the end." did not mention line-feeds)), parsed one line at a time.
  * The original format consisted of 31 lines while "newer" DOOR.SYS files may contain 52 lines, for an additional 21 fields of data.
  * The valid ranges of numeric values were mostly undefined in specs, but limits are imposed by popular door libraries (e.g. DoorFrame)

===== Synchronet Notes =====

  * Both the 31-line and 52-line formats are supported, selected by the external program's type in SCFG. The 31-line file is still written as 52 lines — the last 21 are blank.
  * Line 23 (conferences registered in) carries the letters of the user's flag set #1.
  * Line 24 (conference exited to door from) and line 51 (total doors opened) are always ''0'' — Synchronet tracks neither.
  * Line 10 is the user's alias or real name, depending on the external program's "Use Real Name" setting; line 36 is always the user's chat handle.
